Few art forms can match the passion, elegance, and drama of tango. With its haunting melodies, intricate rhythms, and seductive dance steps, tango has captivated audiences in the United States for over a century. First introduced to Americans through ballroom dances in New York between 1912 and 1915, tango quickly became a sensation, later enjoying vibrant revivals in the 1930s, 1950s, and 1980s, each wave drawing new admirers to its magnetic blend of music and movement.
At the heart of tonight’s celebration is René Casarsa, born in Santa Fe, Argentina, whose lifelong dedication to tango has brought its magic to audiences nationwide. In 1999, with the sponsorship and production of the Casa Argentina de Houston (CAH), he premiered his acclaimed Anthology of Tango, paving the way for countless performances across the country. His production Tango Time marked its 25th anniversary in 2024, a milestone in his remarkable career.
